An alternative to Adobe for your image processing and editing.
Affinity Photo is a UK made by UK software company serif. It is a very powerful, non destructive processing and editing piece of software and it costs currently, a one off payment of, £48.99 for a desk top version, or £19.99 for an iPad version.
It has an excellent built in offline help feature. Plenty of online tutorial content too. Help videos on both Youtube, or if you want fewer adverts, Vimeo, and the videos, refreshingly, have a UK presenter. There's also paper based help in the form of books for those times when you don't have access to the internet
Those familiar with Lightroom and Photoshop might struggle to adapt to a new interface and terminology, those looking for the first time this, in my opinion, would be an excellent contender if you didn't want to go down the subscription route.
There are other non subscription editing and processing software packages availabe, OnOne software is one which readily springs to mind. However, everytime they have a major upgrade your required to re-buy and it isn't cheap.
So, if you are thinking about whether you should commit to an Adobe Photographers subscription, about £120 per year, Affinity Photo, could be an option to consider also. But remember, the Adobe subscription includes a number of desktop and tablet applications for the one price (Lightroom Classic and CC, Bridge, Photoshop, Lightroom CC for iPad, various Photoshop apps for iPad) which are all kept up dated for no extra charge. As far as I can tell Affinity photo is kept updated without additional charge but of course major upgrades in future may do so.
