Start of the New Season on the Horizon

Hi all Being a Friday, my mind has turned to the new season so I thought I would give you a heads up of what is planned.

First of all, we have some new names on the distribution list ( hidden for GDPR reasons ) following the show at Rheged where we had nine potential new members sign up. I hope to see them at the coming meetings and sample what is the best and friendliest club in the area!

Our committee for next year is : Mike Kitson ( Programme Secretary ) Mike Naylor ( Internal Competitions Secretary ) Rob Jackson ( Treasurer ) Tanya Whorwood ( Secretary ) Tony Crossland ( External competitions ) Joan Martin and David Poole - Committee members.

We start the season on SEPTEMBER 14th with a photo walk / training session at Kirkby Lonsdale, meeting at Devils Bridge at 7.30pm. This is part photography and part social, ending in a local hostelry for photo chat. The river at Devils Bridge offers a good opportunity to learn about long exposures, and we will have filters etc available for you to have a go if you so wish. See the sample image below. Kirkby also has Ruskins View, St Mary's Churchyard, cobbled streets and old buildings so lots to try your creativity on!  Just turn up at 7.30 at Devils Bridge.

Our first internal  meeting is on SEPTEMBER 21st where you get the chance to show what you have been up to over the summer. This is also the deadline for entries to the first competition - print ( mounted 50cm x 40cm preferably )  and dpi. We will allow a bit of flexibility in this but please aim to get your entries in on the night. Dpis should be 1400 x 1050 pixel in size, with any spare canvas filled in black. Save files as sRGB, high quality (12) jpegs, files named as your membership number ( or name if you don't have one) followed by the image title.  We will go over this on the night as well. If you want to enter a dpi ( digital image ) and are unsure of all this - just drop me an email / text and I will help you out.

The rest of the programme put together by Mike is full of lectures, print and dpi competitions, training sessions and member evenings where everyone gets involved. This programme is attached as a pdf, but is subject to change so check the website We will also of course plan to be at Rheged for the photography show again next year.

As you can see we have a new Treasurer, Rob Jackson, who has set up online banking for us so that will simplify paying subs.

I get a lot of E mails from all kinds of sources asking me to circulate to members - I do not normally pass these on as I don't want to fill up your inbox. If you wish to subscribe to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain ( PAGB - the national association of camera clubs ) and/or Lancashire and Cheshire Photographic Union ( our local federation ) - you can do so via their websites :- Members of the Royal Photographic Society should get e mails direct from their membership. I look forward to seeing you soon - its has been a long summer in many ways with less trips than I hoped, due to my 6 week illness and holidays. Please feel free to share this blog post to anyone you know who may be interested in joining Cheers  Tim Hancock
